“Czyste” is the latest production by Ramona Nagabczyńska—a choreographer known for her bold approach to stereotypes of femininity and the body.
This time, the artist invites us on a choreographic journey inspired by the act of eating: from insatiability to overindulgence, from pleasure to revulsion and disgust. From a desire for abundance to a gesture of destruction that signifies not an end, but the beginning of change. It is a looping path from the “old self” to the “new self,” one that constantly begins anew.
On stage, three female bodies explore the physical dimension of eating: swallowing, regurgitating, opening and closing the throat, breathing, stomach tension. These processes are transformed into an intense, rhythmic choreography in which the boundaries between the obvious and the non-obvious blur.
The performance also touches on a broader social context. Food—whether its restriction or excess—is still subject to judgment. In the past, fasting was interpreted as an expression of spiritual purity and control over the body. Today, religion has less influence, but the mechanisms of judgment remain similar: restraint is rewarded, and excess is criticized.
During the performance on May 22 (Friday), we will provide childcare for children ages 3–11. Details about childcare can be found in the News section.Following the performance on May 23 (Saturday), there will be a discussion with the artists.
