Introductory workshop and contact improvisation jam
PRACTICES OF IMPERFECTION
The introductory workshop “Practices of Imperfection” is a space for collectively exploring movement and creativity. During the workshop, participants will seek a balance between structure and freedom—considering how to create frameworks that stimulate the imagination while leaving room for the unpredictability of the process.

The session will begin with work using open movement scores, starting with simple tasks and gradually developing them into a multi-layered improvisation involving movement, space, silence, and interaction with the group. Through dance, observation, and experimentation, the workshop fosters mindfulness of one’s own body, fellow participants, and the environment. It also enables the recognition of meanings, memories, and contexts, combining playful tasks and structures with the discovery of freedom within constraints.

The workshop draws inspiration from various streams of improvisation, including the work of Adam Benjamin and his book *Making an Entrance*, which demonstrates ways to create inclusive group improvisation.

The sessions are open to all and tailored to the diverse needs of participants—taking into account the pace of work, rest, space, and the level of physical challenge. They are open to both those just beginning their journey with improvisation and practitioners seeking to deepen their body awareness, creativity, and presence in group work.

Following the workshop, there will be a contact improvisation jam—a format inviting spontaneous and creative dance, open to all interested participants, regardless of age or movement experience.

Klara Łucznik
An artist, researcher, and facilitator of movement practices, operating at the intersection of art and science, dance and psychology, embodiment and cognitive reflection. In her work, she explores dance as a space for encounter, mindfulness, and presence—both in individual and group settings. Group improvisation holds a special place in her practice, where she combines contemporary and somatic approaches to movement, including contact improvisation.

She holds a Ph.D. in psychology, during which she researched co-creation and the experience of flow in group dance improvisation (CogNovo, University of Plymouth). She continues her research on the role of touch and embodied communication in artistic practice, workshop facilitation, and performance.

She divides her time between Poland and the United Kingdom. In Poland, she is the curator of the Warsaw CI Flow festival and the Movement Laboratories as part of the Central Dance Stage in Warsaw. In the UK, she collaborates with CoLab Bristol and Nita Little, and also initiates the Imperfect Practices project—a space for improvised performance and coaching work.
