"In C" Choreography Workshop by Sasha Waltz & Guests
“In C” is a choreographic system created by German choreographer Sasha Waltz, consisting of 53 movement figures based on Terry Riley’s open score “In C,” composed in 1964. The material can be learned and performed anywhere and by anyone, and it is open to adaptations in various dance styles and cultures, as well as to influences from different backgrounds—by both professionals and amateurs, young and old alike.

At the same time, the performance follows a specific set of rules: a common language that provides the framework for the collective composition. In this sense, “In C” can be understood as a democratic process. It explores what it means to be an individual within a group and reflects the dynamic relationship between individual decisions and collective choices. The performance plays with the constantly shifting roles of leader, follower, and everything in between, creating a horizontal network of equally responsible participants.
“In C” thus becomes a tool for connecting generations, art forms, and national borders.

The workshop, led by dancer László Sandig, focuses on the first 20 of 53 figures, inviting participants to immerse themselves in play and improvisation within the framework of the “In C” compositional rules.

The workshop is advanced level and is intended for dancers.

Please note! The workshops take place in the Auditorium of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, at 103 Marszałkowska Street.
