Coaching with Anna Godowska
Festival of Dreams
'Festival of Dreams' is a coaching session with Anna Godowska dedicated to her original method of working with dreams, dreaming, and the unconscious in dance practice, resulting from over a decade of research and creative work with Sławek Krawczyński. The method draws from the ideas of Carl Gustav Jung's analytical psychology and is inspired by Arnold Mindell's process-oriented psychology, adapted for dance practice.

According to these approaches, sleep, and more broadly – dreaming, is perceived as a permanent reality present here and now: in bodily experiences, fantasies, memories, and relationships with other people. The essence of the method is the ability to work with every type of experience – both individual and collective. Opening oneself to this often invisible and unconscious dimension of the world forms the foundation of the method and allows dancers to discover new qualities in the body and movement.

During the coaching session, participants will learn methods and techniques for utilizing the resources of the unconscious: finding its impulses, becoming aware of them, developing them, and transforming them into dance. The practice enables a deeper feeling and understanding of the relationship between the body and psyche, and the discovery of how to use these connections in the creative process.
The 'Festival of Dreams' project has been developed by the artistic duo since 2024. Renowned institutions have provided support for the research and artistic endeavors, including: Centre national de la danse in Paris, THEOREM International Foundation, Le Manège Centre in Mons, Visegrad International Fund, Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, Art Stations Foundation in Poznań, Susch Museum in Switzerland, Cultural Centre in Lublin, and Body/Mind Foundation.

The coaching takes the form of an intensive, 8-hour session and is aimed at dancers over 18 years of age with experience in dance practice. It is intended for both individuals encountering this method of work for the first time and those who have previously participated in workshops led by Anna Godowska.

Choreographer, dancer, contemporary dance educator, coach, researcher. For her, dance is a unique form of expressing human spirituality and, at the same time, a way of exploring it. She has collaborated with institutions such as: Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, Zachęta, National Theatre in Warsaw, Nowy Teatr in Warsaw, Gorki Theater in Berlin, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina in Madrid, Kammerspiele Theater in Munich. Godowska's achievements also include collaborations with artists from other fields of art (film, visual and plastic arts), notably a long-standing collaboration with Katarzyna Kozyra.

In December 2024, Anna Godowska received an award from the Association of Polish Stage Artists for her artistic achievements in dance.

From 2001 to 2012, Anna Godowska, together with director Sławek Krawczyński, ran Teatr Bretoncaffe. The most significant part of Anna Godowska's work is the pioneering research project titled 'Dance of the Dreaming Body,' created with director Sławek Krawczyński, based on applying the ideas of Carl Gustav Jung's analytical psychology and Arnold Mindell's process-oriented psychology to dance and theater practice. The project was initiated in 2005 at the Centre national de la danse Pantin in Paris, and as a result of many years of practice, an innovative original method of working with dreams and the unconscious in dance and theater was developed. In 2015, Anna Godowska and Sławek Krawczyński received a special award from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage to mark 15 years of their collaborative artistic work, for their achievements and contribution to the development of contemporary dance in Poland.
