October Classes
Resistance Training - Classes for the Advanced Group

EDUCATIONAL TUESDAYS
“Disciplines of Resistance” is a series of morning classes in which participants are invited to treat the “warm-up” not only as a way to prepare the body for the work that follows, but also as an autonomous choreographic practice. How can we invite the body to move, mobilize it, and seduce it? How can we develop readiness, agency, and discipline in our daily practice without subjecting the body to a single model of fitness? How can contact with other bodies support mindfulness, the negotiation of power, and the search for one’s own answers?

One possible answer is discipline understood not as a rigor imposed on the body, but as precision, mindfulness, and a readiness to remain in relationship with movement. Negotiating this relationship with others is also an essential element of the practice. During the classes, participants will work with improvisation, movement scores, and resistance—understood as a force that organizes movement and opens up various ways of acting, reacting, and being together.

Who are these classes for?

The classes are intended for people working in the fields of dance, choreography, and performance who maintain a regular movement practice. In particular, they are aimed at those interested in a practice that does not rely solely on developing physical skills or learning set material, but rather explores how movement arises under the influence of principles, constraints, rhythm, repetition, and various ways of directing attention.

Knowledge of any specific technique is not required. What is important is a willingness to engage in intensive and detailed work with the body, an openness to repetition, and curiosity about one’s own movement habits and ways of responding to a task.
One element of the practice will involve touch and working with varying degrees of pressure and force. Therefore, an openness to physical contact during group work is essential.
The workshop is open to Polish and English speakers.

Duration: 75 minutes
Workshops for ages 16+
Kasia Kania
Choreographer, performer, dramaturg of choreographic processes, and educator. She creates performances and movement practices in which she explores how bodies, relationships, attention, and imagination influence one another. Her work draws on feminist and collective approaches and examines how movement and imagination can open up new ways of perceiving, negotiating, and acting together.
She studied at the Department of Dance Theater in Bytom and at the Institute of Applied Theater Studies in the Department of Choreography and Performance in Giessen. Her practice has been shaped by her formal education and many years of performance training in contemporary dance techniques, followed by encounters with experimental and expanded choreographic practices developed within the international dance community.

She has taught as a guest instructor at the Faculty of Dance Theater in Bytom, the Academy of Music in Katowice, and JLU Giessen. In 2025, she also co-led the Experimental Choreography Course organized by the Burdąg Foundation (Centrum w Ruchu).

As a performer, she has collaborated with, among others, Contact Gonzo, Rotterdam Presenta, Ana Dubljević, and Zrinka Uzbiec. She has created and presented her own works at venues including Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Station – Service for Contemporary Dance in Belgrade, Komunie Warsaw, TR Warsaw, and the Festival of Many Cultures in Łódź.
