Alex Baczyński-Jenkins: Enchanting Queer Reality. On “Before a Thousand Roses Bloom (With Warsaw in the Background)”
BOOK DISCUSSION WITH AGNIESZKA SOSNOWSKA
On October 14 at 6 p.m., we invite you to the Dance Pavilion for a discussion titled “Alex Baczyński-
Jenkins: Enchanting Queer Reality.” Our guests will be Alex Baczyński-Jenkins,
an artist and choreographer, co-founder of the queer-feminist collective KEM, and
Agnieszka Sosnowska, a researcher and curator affiliated with the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Susch Museum
, author of a book in which the work *A Thousand Roses Will Bloom* (with Warsaw in the Background) serves as
the starting point for a narrative about Alex Baczyński-Jenkins’s work in the context of
Poland’s political landscape from 2015 to 2023. The conversation will be moderated by Michał Grzegorzek, curator and author
of texts on contemporary art, and director of Galeria Studio.

Alex Baczyński-Jenkins: Enchanting Queer Reality. “Before a Thousand Roses Bloom
(with Warsaw in the Background)” is a story about strategies of resistance, attempts to create a sanctuary
, and conjuring queer reality from the perspective of an artist working in difficult times
for the LGBTQ+ community. The eponymous performance combines several dimensions: working within the fabric
of dreams, creating a vision of social utopia, and a mature activist stance.

Agnieszka Sosnowska’s book launches a new publishing series by the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences and
the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw: PERFO. SEPARATE, MOVING, NEW.
These small, beautifully illustrated books present anarchic or deviant phenomena
in relation to prevailing orders—aesthetics, methodologies, discourses, identities, genre classifications
, reception habits, historical narratives, institutional frameworks, or
other constraints that discipline artistic creation or the ways it is studied.
