SIMPLE
SIMPLE is a performance by the Argentine-Belgian choreographer and dancer Ayelen Parolin, who was born in Buenos Aires and has been based in Brussels for many years. Known for her subversive humor and penchant for the absurd, the artist this time consciously employs limited and minimalist means of expression, creating a choreographic interplay of rhythm, structure, and imagination.
By placing three performers in a surprising web of interdependencies, Parolin builds a structure that is both repetitive and constantly shifting. Roles are redistributed, and the performance itself is continually reinvented from the beginning. Incompleteness and a return to the starting point become the fundamental principles here. A peculiar labyrinth and a musical game emerge… devoid of music.
In SIMPLE, the choreographer forgoes one of her most important stage partners. Since there is no music, it is the bodies present on stage that must imagine, create, and perform it, searching for their own rhythm and the pulse of life. Working in perfect harmony, the trio carries out this task with extraordinary energy, deeply human naivety, and childlike sincerity—in a space where everything remains possible, from the absurd to a dream.
As Ayelen Parolin herself emphasizes, the search for simplicity does not mean striving for simplification, but rather an attempt to act without pretense and to abandon the category of seriousness. Childhood, instinct, naivety, and the absurd—understood as forces capable of opening the imagination and setting the unpredictable in motion—serve as points of reference.
The performance, which has been successfully presented at major international dance and theater festivals—including the Avignon Festival, Tanzmesse, and ImPulsTanz—will now be shown in Poland for the first time.
During the performance on September 11, we will provide childcare for children ages 2–11. Details.
Following the performance on September 12, there will be a discussion with the creators of the show.

An Argentine-Belgian choreographer and dancer living and working in Brussels. Born in Buenos Aires, she has been active in the European contemporary dance scene since 2000. She has collaborated with, among others, Mathilde Monnier, Jean-François Peyret, the Mossoux-Bonté company, Alexandra Bachzetsis, Mauro Paccagnella, and Louise Vanneste.
Since 2003, she has been developing her own choreographic practice. She has created approximately twenty productions, including DAVID, Hérétiques, Nativos, Autoctonos, and WEG. Her work, which defies clear-cut classifications, combines various aesthetics and explores the complexity of identity and interpersonal relationships.
She has also created works for companies such as the Korean National Contemporary Dance Company, the Ballet National de Marseille, and Carte Blanche – Norwegian National Contemporary Dance Company. Her works have been presented at major international festivals and venues, including the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, the Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, Tanz im August in Berlin, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
A recipient of the SACD Lifetime Achievement Award and a Pina Bausch Foundation fellowship, she has long been one of the leading figures on the European choreographic scene.
