An Introduction to Ballroom Culture by Madlen & Kamilla Revlon
The Future Ball Part 4 – Back to the Future! is the fourth edition of the ball organized by the pioneers of ballroom culture in Poland—Madlen Revlon (Magdalena Marcinkowska) and Kamilla Revlon (Kamila Górny).
The accompanying program will feature a practical and theoretical lecture and an open workshop titled “Introduction to Ballroom Culture,” led by Madlen Revlon and Kamilla Revlon.
The event will begin with a lecture and an open discussion, during which the artists will introduce participants to the history and culture of ballroom. They will discuss its significance as a space for expression, community, and identity-building, and will also share their own experiences related to the development of the ballroom scene in Poland. The meeting will also provide an opportunity to ask questions and reflect together on what ballroom is.
Following the introductory session , there will be a workshop open to anyone interested in learning the basics of selected ballroom categories: “European Runway” and “Vogue Fem.”
The first category—European Runway—is inspired by the world of fashion shows and the art of moving down the runway. Participants will work on conscious movement in space, stage presence, and building self-confidence.
The second part of the workshop will be Vogue Fem—one of the dance-oriented ballroom categories. Participants will learn its basic elements, such as the duckwalk, catwalk, hands performance, floor performance, and spins & dips, as well as the movement expression characteristic of this category. The workshop will be an opportunity to work on self-confidence, body awareness, and free expression through movement.
The lecture and workshop will provide an opportunity to explore ballroom culture both theoretically and through practical movement. They will also serve as a chance for shared experience, exchange, and engagement with the idea of community, which remains one of the most important elements of this culture.
The event is open to everyone. No prior dance experience is required.
It’s a good idea to bring heels, which will allow you to fully experience the essence of the “European Runway” category.
