Heavy Weight Holding Body is a solo dance performance by Karol Tymiński
, created specifically for a particular space. It premiered in Berlin in 2022, on Schönhauser Allee.
Karol Tymiński traverses the city, exploring the intimate relationship between the body and architecture. His movements and gestures reveal the hidden eroticism of the urban fabric – its pulsations, tensions, and rhythms. The artist's dance becomes a constant negotiation between personal desire and what is socially acceptable and visible in public space.
Risking exposure, Tymiński moves on the borderline of culturally imposed norms, initiating an intimate encounter between body and matter. As the choreography develops, the artist distorts the dominant understanding of sexuality and its presence in the public sphere, directing the audience's attention to the experience of the dynamics of urban structures.
Unaware passers-by become part of the choreography for a moment, while the audience—like voyeurs—observes them from a distance that both hides and reveals. Through headphones, they hear the artist's voice, forming a secret alliance with him and participating in a parallel reality.
Karol Tymiński's performance is presented as part of the Warsaw Calling review, which consists of the latest works by Polish choreographers who live and work in Berlin.
