The improvised dance scene [sic!] Saute is an open artistic initiative dedicated to dance and stage improvisation. It was created out of the need to establish a space where improvisation could regularly feature in cultural offerings, both in Warsaw and nationwide.
Improvisation, increasingly used as a creative tool and language of stage expression, remains little recognized in Poland, despite being an important element of contemporary choreography. The Saute improvised dance scene [sic!] presents a variety of approaches to improvisation – understood as a conscious, precise artistic practice based on unique techniques and tools. In this context, improvisation intertwines identity, social, and emotional themes, remaining open to change and the immediacy of the moment. It is both an art of creation and of everyday life – a flexible response to the challenges of the present day.
The initiative was created by Aleksandra Bożek-Muszyńska and Ilona Trybuła. The first edition took place in June 2023 at the Łowicka Center in Warsaw. Since then, meetings have been held regularly—once a month—with the participation of invited artists associated with dance, performance, theater, and improvised music.
This time, the Improvised Dance Stage [sic!] Saute will visit the Pavilion of Dance and Other Performing Arts. The event is part of the Pavilion's pilot program, which promotes cooperation with local initiatives, strengthens ties with the Warsaw artistic community, and supports organizations working for the performing arts. We invite you to experience, observe, and co-create together—regardless of your experience or knowledge of dance. Improvisation is for everyone.
- Hi, what are you doing? - Nothing. - And this "nothing," what is it?
We look at this "nothing," which is not a lack or a way of killing time, but quite the opposite – an extremely full and dynamic reality. What's more, it may be the most valuable and necessary for fully experiencing oneself. Starting from individual stories and associations, we create a score for action and a careful search for the state of "nothing" in front of the audience.
